With the right ostomy supplies (Stomaversorgung), you can lead an active and independent life – with protection, comfort and security.
A stoma is a surgically created opening in the abdominal wall through which urine (urostomy) or stool (colostomy, ileostomy) is diverted into a pouch when the natural route no longer works. Ostomy products collect stool or urine safely and hygienically and help make everyday life easier to manage.
Types of stoma
- Colostomy: an artificial outlet from the large intestine for stool
- Ileostomy: an artificial outlet from the small intestine for stool
- Urostomy: an artificial drainage route for urine
- Mitrofanoff stoma: an artificial drainage route for urine
Types of product
One-piece pouches
In a one-piece system, the pouch and the skin protection baseplate are permanently joined. It is thin, flexible and easy to use, because the whole pouch is removed when you change it – suitable for sensitive skin and an active everyday life. However, frequent changing can put strain on the skin.
- Thin and flexible: adapts well and adds hardly any bulk.
- Easy to use: quick and simple to change.
- Fewer parts: no separate baseplate needed.
- Good for active people: stays securely in place, even when you move.
Two-piece pouches
In a two-piece system, the baseplate and the pouch are separate; the pouch is clipped or stuck on. The baseplate can stay on the skin for several days, which reduces skin irritation. The system is a little thicker and takes more effort to handle, but offers more flexibility.
- Gentler on the skin: the baseplate stays on for several days and reduces skin irritation.
- Flexible: the pouch can be changed independently of the baseplate.
- More choice: different types of pouch for different needs.
- More economical: fewer baseplates used thanks to longer wear time.
Baseplates
Baseplates are the skin protection plates of two-piece systems. They are stuck to the skin and form the secure base for the pouch – in various shapes, materials and sizes to suit your stoma and skin.
Stoma caps
Stoma caps are small, discreet covers, mainly for colostomies with controlled bowel emptying, for example after irrigation. They protect the stoma and hold back odours – ideal for short periods of wear, for example during sport or on special occasions.
